From May to December a series of initiatives to analyze the complex dynamics between democracy, national sovereignty and European Union, and the relations with the neighbouring countries.
Istituto Luigi Sturzo and Wilfried Martens Center for European Studies, in the prospect of the next elections of the European Parliament and the upcoming Italian Presidency of the EU, intend to promote many initiatives within a wide project: The Italian Presidency of the European Union and the challenges of democracy. The neighborhood from Mediterranean to Eastern Europe.>.

The project aims to examine some of the priority issues of the Italian Presidency, and of the European Union in general, in particular through an analysis of the difficulties of the contemporary democracies in the context of the EU and an evaluation of the relations between the Union and the neighbouring countries.
